weekend fun

This week I've been playing catch up.
Soul restoration ended a couple weeks ago and I just finished catching up to week 3.
I'm enjoying it though. I can't recommend it enough and it's been a great excuse to stock up on art supplies. I'm learning so much...

Yesterday I hosted my first baby shower!
One of the girls in my mops group is having a baby so we had a little shower for her.
Of course I was nervous because I'd never hosted one before,
and I really didn't know what I was doing
but everyone had a good time.

I kept things simple.
Did my best
and let it go.

the aftermath :)

a good read

Friday was book club night.
My first time hosting.
I was nervous. Definitely out of my comfort zone but knew it was something I just needed to do. You know how the anticipation is often worse than the actual reality. One of the things I prayed for when it came to a house was room to comfortably entertain and we were blessed with it. We were like sardines in our old house.

My new thing is taking a deep breath, and assuring myself that no one expects perfection except me. That made preparing for company much more relaxing. I didn't stress out like I usually do. Even when the dessert I had planned didn't work out...and then my back up didn't. Everyone was perfectly happy with chocolate chip cookies.

We read the Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. It's title describes it perfectly. It's definitely bitter and sweet. It takes place during World War II and tells the story of Henry, a Chinese American and his friend, Keiko, a Japanese American.

We all thought it was a good read. I live in the Northwest so I recognized the places that were mentioned. It is really hard to believe that it all really happened, people were completely uprooted from their lives...they lost everything
and not that long ago.
Somehow they held onto hope...the sweet things in life...however few they were.

If you're looking for a book, it's a good, easy read. :)

Enjoy your weekend!

party weekend

This weekend we finally celebrated my younger daughter's 7th birthday. Her birthday's the end of December. We had a family party for her but of course she wanted one with all her girlfriends. :)
We had the party at our house. I was so nervous! I haven't hosted a party at home (other than family) since my 9 year old was in preschool. Our previous home was pretty small and I never feel like my home is good enough. (It's never clean enough or put together enough, etc.) I love having friends over to hang out but the idea of a party (even for sweet little girls) completely intimidated me.
I'm so glad I did. It was so much easier than I thought it'd be
My husband was so helpful! He ended up putting together most of the food. We made little flower sandwiches. They were so cute. I can't believe I didn't get a picture. I really couldn't have done it without him. We're a great team.
I hope the girls had a good time. I kept asking my girls what they thought. :)

And now I can stop worrying about it!
